Hwan Yeong Taekwondo Academy shine at Whiston 1-2-1

Hwan Yeong Taekwondo Academy enjoyed a fantastic day at the Whiston 1-2-1

competition, and we couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved.

Across the event, our athletes took part in 17 matches, coming away with an

impressive 6 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 17 brilliant efforts on the mats.

Behind every result was determination, courage and a willingness to step forward

and give it everything.

We were supported by three outstanding coaches – Henry Watkinson, Ellie

Mawdsley and Spuddy – who guided, encouraged and motivated our athletes

throughout the day. Just as importantly, we were backed by a brilliant team of

parents and supporters, whose encouragement created an incredible atmosphere

ringside.

One of the most rewarding sights was seeing our players smiling in every

photograph – even when the result didn’t go their way. That resilience, positivity and

sportsmanship says everything about this team. It takes real bravery to step onto the

ring for the first, second, or even tenth time, and walking off the mats smiling is its

own kind of victory.

We hope every one of our fighters feels proud of themselves and has taken

something valuable away to reflect on and work towards as we look ahead to our

next competitive events:

18 April – UTA Northern Ireland 1-2-1

10 May – Apex Open Championships

A huge congratulations to our players: Poppy Gleave, Jake Moreno-Vicente, Isla

Moreno-Vicente, Carter Gordon, Lincoln Horsley, Jackson Tugwell, Henry Scott,

Sam Garratt, Ian Garratt, Tommy Stoneman, Rhys Dale and Connor Robinson. We

also want to recognise and congratulate coaches Henry Watkinson and Ellie

Mawdsley, who both stepped onto the mats themselves and competed on the day.

Our team did themselves, their coaches and the whole club proud.

Thank you all so much, and congratulations everyone – you are all ace!!
